Andrew Walker was born in Aberdeen, his father was a marine engineer who spent most of his working life at sea. Walker's grandfather was a trawler skipper who owned several boats sailing out of Aberdeen. Walker's ancestors can be traced back many generations of fisherfolk living and working around the small fishing village of Collieston south of Peterhead.
Walker attended Edinburgh College of Art from 1977 - 1981, graduating with a BAHons Fine Art. He met his wife Alison while at college, they have lived in Edinburgh, London, The Scottish Borders and currently Cornwall where they have a studio and showroom beside the harbour in the busy fishing port of Newlyn.
Walker has had over twenty solo exhibitions since graduating including at Riverside Studios London; The Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh; Aberdeen Art Centre; Cambridge Contemporary Art and Cyril Gerber Fine Art, Glasgow. His work is held in numerous private collections around the world and in public collections including Edinburgh City Art Gallery; The Highland Council; Aberdeen City Art Gallery; the Scottish Borders Council and the Contemporary Art Society. In 2012 he held a large solo exhibition in Paris. Since 2010 he has been working mainly in Cornwall, making several visits each year whilst maintaining a studio in Edinburgh.
